The Federal Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act (42 USC 300G) will take effect January 4, 2014, requiring that any valve, fitting, or fixture coming in contact with potable water (water that is used for drinking or cooking) must have a weighted average lead content of less than 0.25%. Previous regulation defined safe levels as up to 8%.
In preparation for the new federal lead-free law, Zurn has begun the conversion to 100% lead-free products for potable applications. We are asking the industry to move forward with us quickly to convert specifications and inventory to lead-free. An early conversion will limit costs associated with non-saleable product when the law takes effect, and help mitigate availability problems associated with last minute conversions. Besides, it's the right thing to do.
