How to Use an RFA Family with a Type Catalog in Revit Note: When downloading a Revit family, if a .txt file with the same name as the .rfa file is included, this indicates that the family uses a type catalog. In this case, follow the steps below to ensure Revit properly loads the predefined types.
Download the Files
Get both the RFA (family file) and the matching TXT (type catalog). The TXT file must have the exact same name as the RFA file.
Save Together
Place both files in the same folder on your computer.
Load the Family in Revit
Open Revit. Go to Insert > Load Family. Find and select the RFA file.
Select Family Types
If the TXT file is present and named correctly, Revit will show a list of available types. Choose the types you need and click OK.
